Song Recommendation for this reading: Ninguém me ensinou – Lagum

Don’t be afraid to explore. God made the earth for us to explore and take good care of it.

My favourite thing about flying on an aeroplane is that we can see everything from there. I keep thinking how every little light is a house with maybe two, three or more people inside, each one living a different life with different thoughts and concerns. All of that seems so small from the top. Our daily problems and the complicated thoughts that get caught up in our minds seem pretty simple when seen from such a perspective, or at least not as complicated as they seem when I’m down there again. So small and so full of our own concerns, unable to see the entire picture most of the time (That is probably how God look at us.)

Travelling and seeing different places, scenarios, people, cultures, makes us learn and exercise this mindset where things are possible. There are a million options, a million ways to live life. Makes us understand a bit better that each of us is unique in our own way. And if the world is this big and it’s our home, I’m sure it means that every single one of us is capable of doing incredible things, and the limitations are only up to nature itself.

Every place I go reveals a new part of me, as if it makes me see myself from a new point of view. Is almost as if I had these different personalities inside of me, and I didn’t even know about it until I go and hit the trigger that unlocks it. So maybe that is why I always wanted to see the world. I could never settle for just a little bit; my mind wanted to be as wide as the world is.

Long short story

I think travelling is about breaking barriers too. Take that jump, you know? You also have to be brave for it, cause many times, you’re dealing with the unknown, and it can be both scary and surprising, in a good way. It brings me the feeling of being really alive and also free. I mean, as I already said, there’s so much to know.

So please, even if not travelling, don’t settle for less, don’t get absorbed by the comfort feeling of stability and security, ‘cause what is life without a little adventure? Allow yourself to be open to new experiences, and in some way, never stop exploring new things.

Think about a game where you have this map locked, but as you explore, you can see better how big it is, so that the world starts to become bigger and bigger. That is what I feel that travelling does with us.

  1. I forget the quote but I remember someone talking about the idea that if you always stay in the place where you grew up – you stay the same to the people around you there. You’re always the person who used to go out with such and such, or you’re “that friend” of someone you used to know, or you’re the person who did that embarrassing thing when you were a teenager. But when you go to a new place people there are meeting you as the person that you are now. Exploring new places gives you the chance to reinvent yourself or discover things about you that you might not have otherwise. Don’t know if any of what I said makes sense – but I liked your writing and it made me think about this.
